Regina's Last Winter.

Frank Chillemi took a photo of Regina the last winter she was still afloat in Glen Cove Inlet. He was kind enough to send me the photo I have posted here.

It makes me sad to see Regina in such a sad shape but I always have the memories of the great times I had sailing aboard her. In my mind she is still afloat, sailing the sea, her canvas full of wind.

Is this the Regina J Aa Wilson captained?

There were other captains, but it was usually under the command of George Nichols. I don't know if Mr. Wilson ever commanded this Regina Maris. She was a research vessel for the Ocean Research and Education Society out of Gloucester, MA.

My father sailed with a ship called Regina Maris, it came to Norway around 1970. I was just wondering if it was the same ship. I have a lot of pictures of her, but it was hard to compare.

I believe that George Nichols purchased Regina Maris in Norway, so it is possible that she is the same ship. Do you have any photos from back then? A photo may help us identify your ship.

I'm not very clever with computers, but I managed to upload a picture of the ship on my profile picture.. you can have a look? They went in 1969 from Norway - til Portugal - Cap Verde - over Ekvator - Rio de Janairo - Cap Horn - Peru - Panama - San Blas Island - Florida - New York - over Atlanteren - Frankrike - and back to Norway.

It is hard to tell from this photo, but it may be the same ship. The rigging looks quite similar. If you have any other photos it may help.

I will try to post some more tomorrow. A man named Hanuza made a film of the journey. Its on the web, but without any pictures.
Thanks for your time:)

I think you can see them if you see my profile? I called them Regina Maris. I have plenty more if your interrested.

I can't see the photos. They may only be visible to you. Maybe you can make them public, I am guessing.

Could you please tell me how to do that??

I don't know how Blogger handles photo sets. Frankly I find Blogger a bit cumbersome. I post my photos on Flickr. I find it very convenient and easy to use. I also have a Flickr group for the Regina Maris. If you create a free account on Flickr, you can upload your photos there and put them in the group.

Hm, I will try to do that! I've put a couple in the Facebook-group.

I saw the photos on Facebook. Thanks for posting them there.

Hi, I sailed on the R/V Regina Maris off and on from Oct 1982 - May 1984. The Wilson Brothers used to own or built the Regina Maris. The best person to get in contact with is Capt Evan Logan, who was Regina's captain ,when Dr Nichols wasn't on board, starting in 1983. Evan is now the Captain of Alvei and can be contacted through his website:www.alvei.com He sailed on Regina before it was even owned by ORES.
Thanks for setting up this blog. I joined the Facebook group too.

Jane, thanks for the info. I'm going to contact Capt. Logan and invite him to share some info here or in FaceBook.

Hi.
This is the same Regina Martis that captain John Åge Wilson from Arendal, Norway had from 1966 till 1970.
She was then sold to George Nichols USA.
Regina Maris is build in Kristiansand 1965-1966.
I am writing an article about her sailing around Cape Horn in 1966-1967.

I sailed on her through the Silver Banks off of Dominican Republic in early 80's. George Nichols , his wife & their two young children were aboard. George was Captain. George bought The Rgina in Malta and sailed her to Boston Harbor July 4, 1976. Regina joined an armada of European vessels for the crossing for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Independance Day.

I have recently learned of what happened to a ship that I sailed on years ago. One piece of information that I learned (and I have a picture) was that Regina Maris sailed with the tall ship Onaygorah. I am interested in any pictures anyone may have of Onaygorah (she was a concrete hulled barq). Thanks for any help.
